The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to take proactive measures to tackle challenge of insecurity across the country.


Speaking at a Town Hall meeting organized by the Union in collaboration with Human Right Radio in Abuja, the National President of the Union, Mr Christopher Isiguzo reminded the media of their agenda setting roles . Correspondent Michael Ene reports that the event had in attendance the Commissioner of Police in charge of FCT, Mr.Bala Ciroma and the chairman NUJ, FCT chapter Mr. Emmanuel Ogbeche as the host of the event. The event focuses on the security challenges in the FCT and difficulties being faced by the Abuja residents especially in the Satelite town.


Mr. Christopher Isiguzo enjoined journalist to discharge their duties responsibly to help in tackling the challenge of insecurity..
Earlier the Chairman FCT chapter of NUJ Mr. Emmanuel in his speech explained that the focus of the town meeting was not to indict anyone but to provide the platform for stakeholders to foster a solution to the security challenges experience in the FCT.


Similarly the Commissioner of Police FCT command Mr. Bala Ciroma, stated that as a result of the current security challenges in the FCT, the police have come up with what they call Security Plan of the FCT, which is the first ever in the history of the FCT Police command. He said the security plan Identifies various crimes at different levels and contains different ways of combating the crime. He urges residents of the FCT to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activie or person within their communities to the nearest police station.
