The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging President Muhammadu Buhari to direct the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to urgently reconstruct, complete and rehabilitate all failed federal roads in the State.


The resolution emanated from a motion sponsored by the member representing Njikokoa Constituency One, Dr. Timothy Ifedioramma and twenty eight others during yesterdays plenary in Awka.

While giving an insight on the motion, Dr. Ifedioramma argued that since Anambra State is a major commercial hub in the country, which also houses the largest Market in West Africa as well as numerous manufacturing industries with very densely populated cities like Onitsha, Awka, Ekwulobia, Ihiala and others, failed federal roads in the state should be urgently fixed.


He enumerated the failed federal roads to include Onitsha -Enugu Express way, Onitsha -Owerri Express way, Onitsha -Aguleri -Adani road, Onitsha -Ihiala road, Amawbia -Agulu -Ekwulobia -Uga road among others.


Contributing, the Deputy Speaker, Dr. Paschal Agbodike, members for Idemili North, Mr. Ifeanyi Chiekwu, Anambra East, Mr. Obinna Emeneka, Idemili South, Mr. Chuka Ezenwune, and Njikoka Constituency Two, Sir Pete Ibida among others, lent their voices to the call on the federal government to reconstruct and rehabilitate all failed federal roads in the State to minimize the rate of accidents and crimes on the roads and also to boost the economic activities and profiles of the people of the areas.


The Speaker, Mr Uche Okafor described federal roads in the state as death trap, hence the need for their rehabilitation.
