As part of efforts to sustain stability in the health human resource of the state, Governor Willie Obiano has inaugurated a ten man Governing board for Anambra State College of Health Technology, Obosi. The Governor performed the function at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia.
The immediate past Commissioner for Health, Dr Joe Akabuike is serving as Chairman of the board, while Mr Okechukwu Nwobi, Provost of the School is serving as it’s secretary. The former board served out it’s four year tenure recently.
Other members of the board include Chief Patrick Nwankwo, Dr Ernest Ifebi, Traditional ruler of Aguleri, Dr Mike Idigo, Provost of the College, Dr Robinson Mgbakogu.
Others include Dean of General Studies, Dr Nkechi Ezenwammadu, Dean of Academic Board, Mr Dan Ezobi, Pharmacist Martin Oliseh, as well as statutory members including permanent secretaries in the Ministries of Health, Finance and Education.
Inaugurating the board, Governor Obiano described the school as very important in the State’s medical architecture, as it is aimed at ensuring that enough manpower is trained for hospitals in the State.
The Governor who continued that his administration have been supporting the school through monthly subventions, gave them Target of one year to achieve self-sufficiency, assuring of his continued support.
Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala stressed that the present administration have been playing supportive role to strengthening health institutions in the State, saying that the school is one of the measures adopted to position the State as a medical tourist hub, calling on the board to ensure undiluted training for health givers who pass through the school.
Chairman of the Board, Dr Joe Akabuike who went down memory lane to when the school which was established in the 90s during the old Anambra regime, pointed that notwithstand the challenges inherited, Governor Obiano’s government was able to achieve accreditation for six of it’s courses between 2014 and 2018, saying that the board will keep working to get the remaining accreditation as well as keep it self sufficient.
Present at the inauguration were the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, among others.
