Anambra State government has canvassed for a unified day for general New Yam celebration in the State.
Governor Willie Obiano made the call to Traditional Rulers in the State, when he joined the Traditional ruler of Ukwulu, Igwe Peter Uyanwa to celebrate New Yam festival which heralds eating of New Yam by Ukwulu community.
Government House of Correspondent Ejike Abana reports that according to Governor Obiano, picking a common date for new festival will promote the rich cultural heritage of the state, which he said has tourism potential and can be a foreign currency earner for the State.
The host Monarch, Igwe Uyanwa, while performing the kolanut ritual, eulogized the Governor as one of a kind, who has done a number of remarkable projects that are second to none.
The event which took place at the Monarch’s Traditional Palace attracted top governrment officials including the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mr. Uchenna Okafor, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Primus Odili, Commissioner for Lands, Mr. Bonaventure Enemali, Commissioner for Local government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Greg Obi, royal fathers including Traditional ruler of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, Traditional ruler of Nteje, Igwe Roland Odegbo, Traditional ruler of Umueri, Igwe Ben Emeka, among others.
