Stakeholders have been urged to initiate the Dobe Anambra Ocha Campaign in their community based sanitation exercise for a cleaner Anambra state.
This was the message of the Transition Committee Chairman of Awka South Local Government Area, Mr Leo Nwuba and Managing Director of Anambra Waste Management Authority, ASWAMA, Mr Amaechi Akaorah during today’s monthly sanitation exercise in Awka.


During the exercise in Awka South Local Government Area, ABS observed that commuters were forced to park their vehicles and passengers made to participate in the sanitation exercise.


Addressing Journalists during the exercise, Mr Nwuba said that the Council noticed that residents and motorists wentabout their normal businesses during environmental sanitation exercise, hence his decision to engage them to observe the exercise in compliance with government
directive on monthly sanitation exercise.


While urging the state citizenry to imbibe the culture of paying attention to their environment, Mr Nwuba advised stakeholders in various communities to show examples to the residents instead of flaunting government directive.


At Ngozika Housing Estate, the Managing Director of ASWAMA, Mr Amaechi Akaorah said the agency decided to mark this month’s sanitation at the estate and regretted the attitude of some people who cut trees and stack them around the estate and warned that with the cooperation of the estate association, the agency will penalize anyone caught in the act.


A bus driver, apprehended during the sanitation exercise, Mr Obinna Nwoye, promised to join in subsequent ones, while a resident of Ngozika Housing Estate, Mr Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne applauded the stringent measures by the agency noting that keeping the environment clean is a collective responsibility of all
