The Central Bank of Nigeria has said that the general public can continue to return mutilated banknotes to their banks after the September second deadline.


The Director, CBN Corporate Communications, Mr. Isaac Okoroafor, who disclosed this to newsmen in Lagos, said this is contrary to the news making round that mutilated notes collection would stop after the deadline.
Mr. Okoroafor noted that September second was only the deadline after which CBN would begin to charge banks.


Okoroafor said that they opened a window from June to September, so that when they bring the notes without sorting, they can sort it for them free.
On banks compliance level to the CBN mutilated notes directive, Mr.
Okoroafor confirmed that they are returning the notes and they have been replacing it with new ones.
