The State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging Governor Willie Obiano to direct the Commissioner for Works to complete the Ezira Umuomaku -Enugu Umuonyia -Achina road.
The House passed the resolution following a motion sponsored by the member representing Orumba South Constituency, Chief Emma Nwafor during plenary.
Section fifteen of the 1999 Constitution as amended provides that it is the responsibility of the state to provide adequate facility that will encourage free mobility of people, goods and services throughout the federation.
It is on this note that Chief Nwafor sponsored the motion.
The Lawmaker expressed worry that the deplorable condition of the road has denied Ezira, Umuomaku, Enugu Umuonyia, Agbudu, Onne access to Orumba South Local Government Headquarters at Umunze for years.
He informed the House that sudden abandoning of the road project has threatened the finished section of the road, hence the need for Ministry of Works to see to the completion of the project.
In his contribution, the member representing Anambra East Constituency, Chief Obinna Emeneka decried the sorry state of the road, as it has affected the haulage of agricultural equipment like tractors, and planters, thereby reducing the volume of agricultural product from the area.
The member representing Njikoka Two Constituency, Dr. Pete Ibida, his Onitsha North One Counterpart, Mr. Douglas Egbuna and member for Aguata One Constituency, Dr. Carter Umeh also spoke in favour of the motion.
Speaker of the House, Right Honourable Uche Okafor described the condition of the affected communities as very pathetic and urged the Ministry of Works to salvage their situation.
