Anambra State government has asked the federal government to build more student hostels within Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.


Governor Willie Obiano who made the call during a courtesy visit by Nnamdi Azikiwe University Governing Council and Management of the Institution said that the measure will help tackle the menace of cultism and drug abuse among students.


The team was led by the Chairman of the Governing Council of the School, Alhaji Aziz Bello represented by a member of the Board, Alhaji Issa Modibo and the Vice Chancellor, Professor Charles Esimone.


Governor Obiano who stressed that education is important to his administration, noted that building campuses within the campus will go a long way to monitor activities of students, rather than have them live outside the campus.


The Governor who called on the National University Commission to look into disparity in admission cut off marks in Nigerian Universities, stressed the need for uniformity.


While assuring of support to the University in their planned School of Agriculture project at Ifite-Ogwari, Governor Obiano announced his plan to upgrade the Ifite-Ogwari Primary Healthcare Center to a hospital, adding that enough security will also be provided.


In his remarks, News the leader of the delegation, Alhaji Bello called for deepening of the relationship existing between the State government and the University and asked government to intervene in key areas of need in the University.
The Governor later presented a plaque to the leader of the Governor Council.
