The Anambra State Ministry of Indigenous Art Works, Diaspora Affairs, Culture, and Tourism has held its maiden edition of staff retreat in the ministry to foster collaboration among the workforce and brainstorm on effective ways of achieving its mandate.


The Staff retreat attracted both senior and junior staff of the Ministry as well as key players in the Ministry who interact and share knowledge on better and modernized ways of improving productivity, took place in Awka.
The core mandate of the Ministry is to preserve and promote the rich cultural heritage of Ndi Anambra, see to the development of the tourism industry in the State, among others.


While recounting some of the achievements of the Ministry, the Commissioner for Indigenous Artworks, Diaspora Affairs, Culture and Tourism, Mrs. Sally Mbanefo said that plans are in top gear towards establishing an art and craft village as well as film village which will have all necessary Africa features and urged the staff of the Ministry to be creative in exploring the huge advantages in their disposal to attract tourists capable of improving the state economic sector.


Mrs. Mbanefo noted that the staff retreat seeks to build the best working relationship between the senior and junior staff to deliver the common goal and objectives of Governor Willie Obiano in making Anambra the number one investment destination in West Africa sub region.
In their separate remarks, the Director of Tourism in the Ministry, Mr. Emma Umeokama said that tourism is next in line after oil, urging the youths to avail themselves of the potential in the tourism sector while the state Acting Director, Arts and Culture, Comrade Okechukwu Ofile-Duke remarked that finance has been a major challenge affecting the sector from promoting, showcasing the culture and arts of Ndi Igbo to the world.


A major partner of the Ministry, Mr. Chidi Kanu during his presentation on Digital Statistical database of hotels in the state pointed out that with the strong partnership and support from the ministry, they have been able to register all hotels and hospitality facilities in the state with a view of legalizing their activities with an e-facility that will enable proper documentation and monitoring from the Ministry with wider reach of e-transaction across the world.


At the end of the retreat, the staff of the Ministry under its women Wing presented a live performance of the Ministry’s situation before the huge intervention of governor Willie Obiano, commending him for a great turn around in the Ministry.
