Literature has been described as a tool that has contributed immensely in shaping the society and contributing to its development in diverse ways.
This was the view of guests during the launching of the Book, “Forlorn Fate” authored by Ngozi Chuma-Udeh.
It was a gathering of the academia, writers, custodians of culture and those who thirst for literary wealth , as yet another book birthed in the literary world.
The author of the book and a lecturer at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, explained that the issues in the contemporary society inspired her into writing the book, describing a writer as one who has the burden to speak hoping that her work will have the needed impact.
The traditional ruler of Onitsha, Obi Nnaemeka Achebe and that of Obosi, Igwe Chidubem Iweka, regretted that reading culture is dwindling, calling on parents to encourage their children to read, while young authors must have the courage to realise their work for the world to read and appreciate literature.
The Chairman on the occasion, Mr. Gabriel Orji and the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, Chief Uche Nworah, decried the level at which smart phones and internet have affected the reading culture amongst the youths, despite the mobile books such device offers and called for concerted effort to reverse the trend and commended the author for her work.
A former Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam, Professor Fedelis Okafor lauded the author for her works and urged her to do more.
The event was attended by top government functionaries, including Governor Willie Obiano, represented at the occasion by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C. Don Adinuba among others.
The event featured unveiling of the book, cutting of cake and cultural display.
