The tribunal sitting in Awka has affirmed the election of APGA Candidate and Member of Onitsha South Two State Constituency in Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon Beverly Ikpeazu Nkemdichie.


The case was filed by PDP Candidate for Onitsha South Two State Constituency against APGA Candidate for Onitsha South Two State Constituency in Anambra State House of Assembly elections The court told Barrister Jude Umenajiego that his petition lack merit and as such was dismissed.


In a related development, the Election Petition Tribunal Panel Two sitting in Awka has validated the election of Mrs. Uche Ekwunife as the Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly.


Judiciary Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim reports that the Tribunal headed by Justice Thelma Okara upheld her election on the grounds that Senator Ekwunife was duly elected and that the issue of her nomination by the PDP did not comply with the Electoral Law for which the Petitioner, Chief Victor Umeh went to the tribunal is a pre-election matter.


The Tribunal also ruled that the petitioner, Chief Umeh did not prove his case of irregularities that marred the election in certain pooling units of the senatorial district.


Reacting to the judgment, Counsel to Senator Victor Umeh, Mr. Patrick Ikwueto represented by Mr. Ekemezie Obidigwe said that APGA will test the validity of the judgment at the Court of Appeal.


On his part, Counsel to Senator Uche Ekwunife, Mr. Obinna Adindu said he knew that the case would be in their favour as the grounds upon which the petitioner went to the tribunal is not substantial enough to upturn the election of Senator Uche Ekwunife
