Governor Willie Obiano has inaugurated a new Board for the Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS.
He performed the ceremony at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia.
Government House Correspondent, Ejike Abana reports that while inaugurating the board Governor Obiano charged the members to ensure that ABS is launched on DSTV before Christmas this year, adding that the station is the most State-owned digitized in Africa.
Governor Obiano stressed that plans have been concluded to make Anambra Newspaper and Publishing Company publisher of National Light Newspapers as the ABS.
In a comment, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr C-Don Adinuba noted that the station’s effort is in line with the State government’s vision of making Anambra the most competitive, stressing that ABS has the most active online State-owned platform in the Country.
The co-Chairman of the Board and Traditional ruler of Nteje, Igwe Rowland Odegbo stressed that the Board has been active for the past four years saying that they have worked to reduce the staff strength of ABS from six hundred to three hundred and still on course.
The new Board has Chief Emeka Mmaduegbuna as Chairman, while the Traditional ruler of Nteje, Igwe Rowland Odegbo will serve as co-Chairman.
The Board will oversee the affairs of the ABS for the next four years, as well as the affairs of National Light Newspapers.
Other members of the board are the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, Chief Uche Nworah, Professor Kate Omenugha and Mr Marcel Manafa.
Others are Mr Bob Manuel Udokwu, Chief Pete Edochie MON, Mr Hasan Fawaz and the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Information and public enlightenment.
