State government has promised to quickly fix the pedestrian bridge at the MCC junction Onitsha, forced out of its original position by trailers and other articulated vehicles.
The Commissioner for Works, Engineer Marcel Ifejiofor gave the assurance after inspecting the level of damage on the bridge.

The Commissioner was accompanied on the visit by the Managing Director, Anambra State Road Maintenance Agency, Engineer Emeka Okoye, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Emeka Ohuoha, other directors, and the contractor that handled the project.
Speaking after inspecting the bridge, Engineer Ifejiofor wondered why articulated vehicle drivers would overload their vehicles to the extent of shifting such heavy weight beams and giving it a crack.
He warned those involved in such act to desist forth with, else government would be forced to take drastic action against them.
Commissioner Ifejiofor said that the contractor will move in to fix the bridge which he noted does not pose immediate danger, but if not checked, may cause havoc in the future.
On his part, the Federal Controller of Works in Anambra state, Mr.
Adeyemu Ajayi said that the height of the bridge conformed to the approved over head space of five point-two meters and wondered why drivers of such trailers will be so reckless as to load their vehicles above the height.
