Governor Willie Obiano has called on Journalists to be objective in their daily reportage as they have the power to build or mar the society.
Governor Obiano, made the call while declaring open, the two day Media Summit, organized by the Anambra state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ.
The summit with the theme, “Media Legislature and National Development,” is holding at the Godwin Ezeemo International Press Centre Awka.

Governor Obiano represented by his Deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke while commending journalists in the state for their various contributions to the rapid development of the state, promised to continue to partner the media in the remaining period of his tenure, as he described them as an indispensable tool for the development of any nation.
He however called on them to step-up action in their responsibility of keeping the populace abreast with government policies and plans, as well as other happenings around them, and canvassed for more cordial relationship between the executive arm of government and the media.
In his address, the Chairman of the state Chapter of the NUJ, Mr. Emma Ifesinachi appreciated the support of the present administration to the union, calling for more of such gesture as according to him, the union is still faced with lots of challenges with emphasis on the perimeter fencing and completion of the press centre for the comfort of the members.
Mr. Ifesinachi restated the resolve of the union to upholding its integrity, maintaining discipline among members as well as contribute its quota to the development of the state.

Speaking on the theme of the event, the immediate past Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Stella Okunna emphasized on the need for journalists whom she described as the oxygen of democracy, to summon courage and speak up against ills in the society irrespective of the personality involved in a view to making the society a better abode.
