Anambra State government through the Ministry of Economic Planning, Budget, and Development Partners, has organized the 2020 Budget Stakeholders Interactive Meeting in Awka with a call on Ndi Anambra to always pay their tax and levies to enable the government bring its lofty visions to reality.


The event which attracted stakeholders from across the state, including representatives of Civil Society Organizations, Community and Market leaders, religious institutions, among others, centered on the 2020 to 2022 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and the 2020 Annual State Budget.


The event was designed to present next year’s budget proposal to stakeholders for necessary input.


In a remark, the State Commissioner for Economic Planning, Budget and Development Partners, Mr. Mark Okoye maintained that the event is necessary as it was aimed at acquainting the stakeholders who represent all sections of the society with government plans towards the development of the state.


Mr. Okoye called on Ndi Anambra to always contribute to the development of the state especially through regular payment of tax and Levies for the actualization of the budget and other lofty visions of the present government.


Earlier while presenting the proposed budget on behalf of the Commissioner, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Budget, Sir Melie Onyejepu revealed that issues that have direct bearing on the people, such as agriculture, basic amenities, youths empowerment, among others are among the aspects of the budget with the highest allocation.


Sir Melie said that the Anambra Social Service Identity, ANSSID, is one of the measures initiated by the state government to get more people to pay their tax for the development of the state, disclosing that the government will establish a revenue court where tax defaulters will be tried.


Participants were given the opportunity to make contributions and ask questions on the budget during which the Director of News and Current Affairs of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, Mr Gab Okpalaeze who represented the Media Rights Initiative during the event suggested that attention should be giving to the construction of roads leading to agrarian communities to facilitate evacuation of farm produce, as well as making agriculture more attractive to the youths by providing them with soft loans and other packages as source of encouragement.
