As the world marks the International Day of Democracy today, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Honourable Uche Okafor has called on leaders of various countries to make their governments more participatory in order to carry the masses along.
In his message to mark the day, Honourable Okafor described democracy as the best form of government, noting that it creates the opportunity for people to make practical input in their wellbeing.
The speaker paid glowing tribute to Governor Willie Obiano for giving democracy a chance to thrive in the state through his revolving twenty million naira chose your community project fund to communities aimed at fostering development in rural areas.
He called on political office holders and policy makers to factor-in the needs of the masses in their development plans and ensure that people’s opinions are accommodated in budget processes.
Honourable Okafor further enjoined the federal government to ensure equitable distribution of democracy dividends among the geopolitical zones of the country and create a veritable avenue for the masses to tap the socioeconomic and political opportunities in the country.
