The State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps has directed all Motorcycle and Tricycle owners to ensure the registration of such before 2nd October 2019.
The Sector Commander of the Agency Mr Andrew Kumapayi who gave the directive in an exclusive interview with Abuchi Nwozor in his office in Awka, maintained that any Motorcycle or Tricycle owner who fails to comply with the directive will have himself to blame as Officers and Men of the Federal Road Safety Corps will impound such vehicles and the owner made to pay the necessary fine as stipulated by Law governing the Federal Road Safety Corps.
Mr Kumapayi also announced that any driver who operates without a valid driver’s license and number plate will have his vehicle impounded during the enforcement period stressing that the purpose of enforcing vehicle registration in the state is to enable the Federal Road safety Corps have an effective data base for easy tracing of those who uses such vehicles to commit crime.
Mr Kumapayi announced that Motorcycle owners in the State are expected to have what he called class A Driver’s license while Tricycle owners are expected to have Road permit from the Vehicle Inspection Office, adding that the State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps will partner the Anambra State Board of Internal Revenue and other relevant agencies during the enforcement exercise to achieve the desired results.
He disclosed that the enforcement should have commenced in August but do to series of appeals from stakeholders especially the Board of Internal Revenue that more time is needed to enable them sensitize the motoring public, it was extended to second October warning that any vehicle operator that have not done so should do it immediately to avoid penalties.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road safety Corps in Anambra State stated that they have been meeting with relevant vehicle Motorcycle and Tricycle Unions with a view to enlightening them on the enforcement.
He said that they are equally having Meetings with the Department of State Service (DSS) the Police, Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps as well as Anambra Traffic Management Agency to ensure seamless operation.
Mr Kumapayi used the opportunity to advise those who fixed extra lights on their vehicles to remove them immediately.
He said that part of their responsibility is to conduct Road audit where by the Corps inform the Government about bad portions of the road that might cause accident for immediate repair.
Mr Kumapayi commended Governor Willie Obiano for his interventions on some Federal Roads across the State saying that such had reduced crashes that can be caused by poor road network.
