Anambra State Government has reiterated its commitment to partnering
the church for enhanced development of the State.
Governor Willie Obiano stated this at the Cathedral Church of Saint
Mary Uruagu Nnewi during a Valedictory Service in honour of the
Retiring Pioneer Bishop of Nnewi Diocese and third Archbishop
Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger Most Reverend Godwin Okpala and
his wife Eugenia.
Governor Obiano who was represented by the State Head of Service Mr
Harry Uduh said that the ongoing partnership between the State
government and the Church has continued to yield dividends especially
in the areas of education and health care delivery and called on the
Church not to relent in their prayers for those in authority.
Governor Obiano used the opportunity to call on affluent citizens of
Anambra State in the diaspora to deploy part of their investment to
the State assuring them of his administration’s support for enhanced
business transactions.
The Governor congratulated Archbishop Okpala and his Wife Eugenia
for their selfless service to God and Humanity.
Earlier in his sermon, Archbishop Godwin Okpala charged Christians to
see discipleship as a call to service, stressing that God’s graceuplifts a true disciple above others.
The outgoing Head of the Anglican Church in Anambra State who
condemned the Xenophobic attacks in South Africa, charged government
at all levels to create more job opportunities for the unemployed
youths to reduce migration of Nigerians to other countries.
Archbishop Okpala commended Governor Willie Obiano and his Wife Dr Mrs
Ebelechukwu for their selfless service to Ndi Anambra and those
Residents in the State, and called on others to emulate them.
Contributing the National Chairman Evangelical Fellowship in the
Anglican Communion EFAC, and Bishop of Aguata Diocese Right Reverend
Samuel Ezeofor thanked God for his mercies and blessings on Archbishop
Okpala and his Wife Eugenia, praying God to grant them their heart
desires.
The event was attended by over eleven Bishops, former Governor of
Anambra State Dame Virgy Etiaba, the Traditional ruler of Nnewi Igwe
Kenneth Orizu the Third among others
