It was a reward for hard work last weekend, as the traditional ruler of Ihiala ,Igwe Thomas Obidiegwu conferred chieftaincy titles to some deserving individuals of the community.
Correspondent Oggorchukwu Oranu was there and reports that the event attracted Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr C -Don Adinuba, one of the red cap Chiefs of the community.
Igwe Obidiegwu during the event said the individuals were chosen for the Chieftaincy title based on their track records in the town and to encourage them to do more.
Igwe Obidiegwu expressed happiness at the overwhelming crowd that turned out for both the New Yam and Ofala festival and promised to bring justice, fair play, unity and more development to the community.
The Transition Committee Chairman for Ihiala Local Government Area Mr Greg Okafor who highlighted the importance of culture as a rallying force for Ndigbo, prayed that the occasion will pave way for the unification of people of Ihiala while Mr. Patrick Ugbaja, Chairman Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, noted that those who were honoured are intelligent people who are well exposed and expressed hope for brighter future for the people of the area.
Some of those conferred with the chieftaincy title including Chiefs Collins Agbasiere, Ody Chukwube, Julius Nwokemodo and the only woman among them, Chief Mrs Edith Ejezie promised to bring their wealth of experience to bear in the development of Ihiala.
In a remark, a community leader, , Chief Ifeanyichukwu Ezeaka who commended the security network in the State harped on the need for good road network and constant power supply to encourage people to come home and invest.
Earlier in a homily during the Thanksgiving Mass for the two events at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Ihiala, Reverend Father Benjamin Odoh from Saint Martin’s Catholic Church, Ihiala, who titled his message “lost but found” said that everybody was lost through sin but those who accepted the word of God are those who were found.
Cultural displays added colour to the event.
