The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a bill for a law to
establish the Anambra State Information Communication and Technology
Agency.
The bill which is sponsored by the Executive Arm of Government was
passed during yesterday’s plenary.

House of Assembly Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim was there and that  reports the bill stipulates that the Agency shall supervise the deployment and
delivery of E -government strategy and project of the state government
and to enhance the advancement of Information and Communication
Technology in the State.

Leading debate on the bill, the Majority Leader, Dr. Nnamdi Okafor
explained that the Agency will construct and equip ICT laboratories
across the state, ensure that the state website and applications are
constantly updated, ensure compliance to the payment of the various
levies relating to its functions and in collaboration with the
relevant state IGR collection agents among others.

The member representing Aguata One Constituency, Dr Carter Umeh noted
that the bill empowers the Agency to coordinate research in the area
of New Communication Technology and identify opportunities for the
state.

The member representing Anambra East Constituency, Chief Obinna
Emeneka, his Njikoka One Counterpart, Dr. Timothy Ifedioramma and
others also spoke in favour of the bill.
Speaker of the House, Hon. Uche Okafor said it will transform Anambra
State into a global village.
