Farmers at the Riverine Communities of Anam in Anambra West Local
Government Area have embarked on massive harvest of farm produce to
avert total damage by flood which is now gathering momentum in the
area.

Staff Reporter Blessing Ijedibia who was at Ose Okwodu yam market,
Onitsha where the farmers display their produce observed that the area
has been covered by Flood forcing the farmers to move to the upland as
the River Niger is gradually overflowing its bank.

Heaps of yam of different sizes and shape were on display and farmers
were seen negotiating prices with buyers, Youths and Adults alike made
brisk business as they load and unload yams from boats.

One of the farmers,   Mr. Peter Ikwunegbo said they embarked on
massive harvest to save the produce stressing that the massive harvest
has resulted in what he termed  one time harvest by all”.

On their part, Chief Ozoemena and Paul Obichukwu, said  the riverine farmers
have suffered huge lost this year, counting the cost of submerged yams
to thousands of naira.
