Following the recent heavy rainfalls across the State and beyond,
residents of the state have been charged to always desilt all
waterways around them to ease free flow of water.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Political Matters,
Comrade Innocent Nduanya, who made this appeal while speaking to the
ABS in Awka, explained that the call became imperative due to the
increased rainfalls in recent times to avoid flood disaster.

Comrade Nduanya while lamenting that most residents of the state dump
refuse indiscriminately and violate  state environmental laws,
equally appealed to land developers to always get approvals from the
relevant authorities, before embarking on constructions.

Comrade Nduanya, who is also the Deputy National President, National
Youths Council of Nigeria, urged those living in flood prone areas to
relocate to the upper lands as directed by NEMA and other relevant
authorities.

A trader at Ifite Awka, Mr. Samson Nwangene bemoaned the attitude of
some residents who block waterways with refuse, saying that it has
caused a lot of damage as a result of excess flooding whenever it
rains.
