The need for a society that will avail everyone an equal opportunity and quality living standards has been stressed.


A former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Professor Charles Soludo made the call during an event in Awka to mark the 2019 Peace Convention organized by the United Nations Peace and Positive Living Awareness Centre.


Correspondent Valentine Mbadugha reports that Professor Soludo who presented a key note speech at the function held at Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre stressed that maximizing the full potential of youths and women in the society as well as providing qualitative and accessible education that will accommodate the poor will play a key role in achieving a desired world peace.


Speaking on the theme of the event, “Peaceful Co-existence: A Panacea for Sustainable Development”, Professor Soludo urged the people to represent the change they clamour for.


Professor Soludo, who received a Peace Ambassador award assured of dedicating rest of his life in working for peaceful co-existence amongst the people.


Earlier in an address, the International Co-ordinator, Nigeria UN-PEPOLAC, Dr Ozioma Ozoemena noted that there is no better time to discuss peace than now.


On his part, a United Nations Ambassador for World Peace and the Director News and Current Affairs of the ABS, Mr. Gab Okpalaeze, who commended the conveners of the event, noted that everyone has a role to play in achieving a sustainable peace.


Other Awardees who spoke during the event including the Chairman Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter, Bishop Moses Ezedebego and Bishop Mike Chukwudum, among others noted that the peace needed in the world can only come through Jesus Christ urging all to embrace the word of God.
