Igwebuike Grammar School, IGS, Old Boys Association of Nigeria, has elected new executive members to pilot the affairs of the association for the next four years.


The election was conducted during the 2019 IGS Awka Alumni’s National Convention held at Nibo.


Founded in 1958, Igwebuike Grammar School has in its sixty-one years of existence, not only bred individuals with outstanding accomplishments but also grown in leaps and bounds to be rated among one of the best secondary schools in Nigeria in terms of academic and sporting performances.


The election for the new executive body was headed by the Chairman of Board of Trustees of the Association, Evangelist Jasper Azodo, alongside other members of the board, who conducted a poll that saw Chief Emmanuel Nwobu re- elected as the new National President of the Association.


Other newly-elected executive members included, Elder Stephen Mba-Nweke as the National Vice President and Mr Ndu Nwanna of the Radio Nigeria as the National Secretary, among others.


While speaking on the occasion, the Member Representing Awka North and South Federal Constituency, Honourable Chinedu Onwuaso, who is also an old boy of the school and Chairman of the convention, expressed delight over the continuous progress being recorded by the school, noting that the school will rise to an enviable height if the present speed of development is sustained.


On her Part, the Anambra State Commissioner for Basic Education, Professor Kate Omenugha, who noted that government alone cannot effectively provide all that is required for qualitative education, lauded what the Old Boys are doing in the school.


Responding, the Newly Re- elected President, Chief Nwobu, appreciated the association for finding him worthy for the post, and sought the support of all, especially the government in addressing the challenges of poor infrastructure and shortage of teachers in the school.


The 2019 Convention has its theme as “Giving Back Makes Everyone a Winner” and attracted old and new members of the IGS Old Boys both at home and in the diaspora.


Cutting of convention cake, launching of endowment fund project, recitation of the college anthem and presentation of awards to some outstanding members of the association featured at the event.
