Governor Willie Obiano has called on the Federal Government to increase efforts towards putting the Onitsha Inland Sea Port to use . Governor Obiano made the call when House of Representatives committee on the Warri, Port Harcourt, Calabar and Onitsha Inland Ports paid him a visit at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia.
The visit was as a result of a motion, sponsored by the member representing Idemili North and South federal Constituency, Chief Ifeanyichukwu Ibezi.

Receiving the delegation led by its chairman, Mr. Bubu Yusuf, Governor Obiano reminded them that majority of the goods that come into the country are mainly owned by Ndi Anambra adding that the port will be beneficial to the South East and Anambra in particular.

According to Governor Obiano, fixing the port will accelerate economic activities in the South East in general and Anambra in particular and noted that his administration had tried so much to dislodge miscreants from the area to keep it secured.

Mr. Yusuf, who however hinted that from their findings, security had been a major problem at un-functional ports except for Onitsha end, pointed out that they came to find out factors that are militating against the maximal use of the ports.

Also speaking, Mr. Ibezi said that he raised the motion because he understands the needs of the people, adding that apart from the Apapa and Tincan Ports, other ports are functioning below capacity and regretted that the revenue that should accrue to the country, goes to neighbouring Countries.

Present during a reception in their honour was Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, Commissioner Mr. Uchenna Okafor, and Dr Christian Madubuko,
among others.
