Governor Willie Obiano said with fervent prayers, Nigeria will continue to grow from strength to strength.
Governor Obiano made the statement during a Eucharistic celebration for the fifty-ninth Independence anniversary of Nigeria held at St.
Patrick’s Cathedral, Awka.
Governor Obiano, who affirmed that there is still hope for Nigeria to attain greatness, urged Nigerians to keep praying for peace, unity and indivisibility of the country.
He further explained that his administration has acquired more sophisticated security gadgets which will be given to all the security agencies on eleventh of next month, to solidify the security architecture of the State.
He further revealed that his government will commence aggressive road reconstruction across the state once the rain stops and warned that it is now a punishable offence for people to block drainage channels in the state.
Delivering a sermon on “Never neglect the condition of the poor”, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor, who said that Nigeria has achieved lots of progress economically, socially and politically since independence, regretted that the civil war, continuous mindless wasting of human lives on daily basis, corruption, ethnic tension and religious bigotry in the nation is still a source of concern.
The Awka Catholic Prelate, who said that Nigeria is blessed with huge human and natural resources, frowned at the unprecedented economic difficulty the nation has found itself recently and urged political office holders to use the country’s enormous resources for the betterment of every Nigerian as the church will continue to pray for the nation.
The National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Oye, noted that Nigeria has not done badly for the past fifty-nine years, and commended Governor Obiano for delivering dividends of democracy to Ndi Anambra.
The State Head of Service, Barrister Harry Udu in his remarks said federal government should intervene on the South East federal roads as they have caused untold hardship to Ndigbo.
The Acting Chief Judge of the State, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, the Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Uche Okafor, the Secretary to the State government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, members of the Anambra State House of Assembly, top government officials, APGA stakeholders, officers of the Nigeria Army, the Police, Prison, Navy, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Federal Road Safety Corps, among others equally attended the mass.
