The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA in collaboration with a Nongovernmental organization, Illicit Drug Abuse Education, IDEA, has
taken drug abuse sensitization campaign to private schools in Odume
Layout Obosi, Idemili North council area.
The event was aimed at catching the children young and exposing
Addressing the students, the Area Commander, NDLEA Fegge, Onitsha
South council area, Mrs. Amaka Ekwealor said they choose private
schools in Obosi to avail the children an opportunity to benefit and
commended the support and corporation of the state government towards
their campaigns against drug abuse.
Mrs. Ekwealor, who took the children on the consequences and dangers
of drug abuse, explained the need for them to say “No to drug and yes
to life” saying that the ultimate consequence of illicit drug taking
is death.
Staff officer, Drug Demand Reduction, Mrs. Stella Egwuatu, said the
best way to shun drug intake is to avoid bad company as well as be
resolute when approached by those friends, who could lure them into
illicit drug intake in their neighbourhood.
The staff Officer Operations, Mr. Solomon Odewale, exposed them to
some of the socially accepted drugs that are illicit and dangerous to
health and advise them not to take them except they are prescribed by
a medical doctor.
He enumerated alcohol, tobacco, kola nut and cigarette among others as
those socially approved drugs but advised against their intake to
avoid marring their future.
The Chairman, Illicit Drug Abuse Education, Chief Greg Anene, said the
organisation deemed it necessary to carry out the campaign to all the
nooks and crannies of the society to intimate the youths on the
dangers of drug abuse in the language they will understand.
The proprietress, Charles Herry International School, Mrs. Ann
Madubuonu and the principal, Gurus and Genius college, Mr. Thomas Duru
appreciated the team for the enlightenment and advised the children to
carry the messages to their neighbourhood.
Distribution of flyers and donation of books by IDAE formed the
highpoints of the campaign.
