As Nigeria celebrates her fifty ninth independence anniversary , education stakeholders have been expressing mixed feelings on the standard of education in the country.


While some rank the nation a little above average, others say a lot need to be done to inject international best standard in the education sector.


Education Correspondent, Theophilus Ukoha, sampled their opinions and reports that the immediate past Provost, Federal College of Education Technical Umunze , Professor Josephat Ogbuagu, said there has been tremendous improvement in technical education and the sector in general.
Professor Ogbuagu, who is currently the chairman Governing Board Anambra state Primary Heath Care Development Agency, ranked the country eighty percent noting however, that a lot need to be done.


In his reaction, Professor Rommy Okoye, of the Education Measurement and Evaluation Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, and his counterpart who is also Dean Faculty of Education, Professor Anthony, there is lamentable decay in the Education sector comparatively to what is obtainable in the early sixties.


Also speaking, a Professor of Accountancy, Professor
Emma Okoye and Professor at Department of Human Health Education, Professor Charles Ogu, lack of quality infrastructure reduces quality education over the years.


They believe that the standard of education in the past is far better, as there was adequate funding as against what is obtainable today.


They suggested the need to declare state of emergency in the Education sector and more fund to be injected into the sector.
