A renowned constitutional lawyer, Professor Ben Nwabueze has called on government at different levels, to work towards returning Nigeria to its past glory.


Responding to eulogies from different quarters during his eighty-eight birthday celebration in Abuja, Professor Nwabueze said that government should grant the request as his birthday wish.


Ekwi Ajide reports that the birthday ceremony was attended by dignitaries, including Governor Willie Obiano.


Some speakers during the event, including the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, who Chaired the event, a former governor of Akwa-ibom State, Obong Victor Attah, Senators Ike Ekweremadu and Uche Ekwunife, the member representing Idemili North and South at the National Assembly, Chief Ifeanyichukwu Ibezi, and his Awka North and South counterpart, Chief Chinedu Onwuaso, NollyWood Actor, Mr. Kenneth Okonkwo among others while praying for him, urged younger Nigerians to emulate him and learn to work hard for the good of the country.
Governor Willie Obiano represented by the Anambra State Liaison Officer in Abuja, Mrs. Agatha Manafa, said Professor Nwabueze has always been a man of the people who has been generous with his treasures, talent and time as he reaches out to humanity irrespective of status, gender, religion or tribe.


According to the Governor, Professor Nwabueze service to the nation has left indelible track record of uncommon courage, sacrifice, patriotism and integrity which should be emulated by all.


Earlier, in a denominational service, that heralded the ceremony, Dr Daddy Hezekiah of Living Christ Mission, represented by Dr. Eze Ibekwe of University of Port Harcourt said longevity is earned by a righteous living and urged people to always emulate the good to live longer.


Lecturers from the University of Nigeria Nsukka said they are constructing a complex to be named after the octogenarian while another group said it is building a cottage hospital in his name.


Also present at the event were the National President of Ohaneze Ndigbo World Wide, Chief John Nnia Nwodo, the traditional ruler of Atani, Igwe Austin Ngoddy, among others.
