Anambra State Government has challenged tertiary institutions across the State to place academic excellence first, and seek stronger international collaboration to enlarge the scope of their curricular.
The Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr C-Don Adinuba, spoke when the proprietor and some members of staff of Legacy University, Okija, paid a courtesy visit to his office in Awka.
According to Mr Adinuba, one of the visions of the Obiano administration is creating a conducive atmosphere that welcomes investors and play effective role in the development of the state’s economy.
He said that the government welcomes more private universities in Anambra State because of the competitiveness they offer to educational evaluation, adding that the state is also proud to be the host to renowned private universities, including the first private university in Nigeria, located in Okija.
Mr Adinuba, who frowned at the dwindling educational system in Nigeria, with the recent global university ranking putting just two Nigerian universities among the over one thousand best across the world, urged the university management to always put academic standards first, carry out development researches and seek foreign partnerships to enlarge the scope of their curricular.
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the University’s Board, Dr Leo Nkameme, said the members of the university deemed it necessary to pay the visit to the Commissionerner because of his long-standing reputation as a believer in education.
The Vice-Chancellor Professor Gabriel Anene and a teacher in the University’s Department of Industrial Chemistry, Professor Joseph Dioha, in their separate remarks, said the university, despite its young age, has been consistent in stepping up in every area of learning and pledged that they would put in collective efforts to ensure that the institution attains great height.
