The Ministry Of Public Utilities has embarked on inspection of street lights in Onitsha and environs.
The Commissioner for Public Utilities, Engineer Emeka Ezenwanne accompanied by Directors of the Ministry , officials of Anambra Traffic Management Agency and the Engineer handling the project said the visit was to ascertain the level of damage on the street lights by some reckless drivers and to fashion out ways to put an end to it.
Correspondent Amaka Chibuzor Okoye reports that while speaking to the ABS shortly after the inspection at Ogbunike, Engineer Ezenwanne said Government is determined to keep street infrastructure intact and disclosed that street lighting project is ongoing in Onitsha and environs which will be completed in two weeks time.
He maintained that they will replace those destroyed and put in place new ones to make life meaningful for Ndi Anambra, even as he advised those vandalizing government projects to desist as it will no longer be business as usual.
Engineer Ezenwanne stated that they have met with the community heads as regards government projects in their areas so as to ensure they make effective use of them.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra Traffic Management Agency, Mr. Path Obiefuna said necessary measures would be taken to protect the street lights so that they will not be tampered with by reckless drivers or vandalized by hoodlums.
The Engineer handling maintenance of all the street lights in Anambra Central, Mr. Nnaemeka Oraka while lamentng actions of some road users, expressed satisfaction with the task force team that was set up to monitor and apprehend any defaulter, pointing out that the government meant well for putting up the projects for Ndi Anambra.
