Governor Willie Obiano has commended the State monthly physical fitness walk, “Walk for life” as the exercise marks one year anniversary.
Correspondent, Kenechukwu Chukwudi who was part of the walk reports that the fourteen kilometers walk which started from the Oyi Local government secretariat by Nteje road, through to Umueri, then to Aguleri and terminated at the residence of Governor Obiano, recorded highest number of participants in this edition.


Speaking at the end of the walk, Governor Obiano, commended the state Sports Development Commission, headed by Tony Oli for sustaining the walk into its first anniversary and promised that schools within the state will soon queued into the fitness exercise and announced that five million Naira would be disbursed for the development of standard football pitch in all communities in the state.


In his remark, the Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Mr Uche Okafor, said it was refreshing to be part of the walk and gave assurance of being a regular participant given the inherent benefit of such leisure walk and implored more Ndi Anambra to join The Chairman Anambra State Sports Development Commission, Chief Tony Oli in his remarks noted that over hundred kilometers have been covered since the walk started and assured that more will be covered, including taking the walk to different parts of the state to send the message of fitness to Ndi Anambra.


The anniversary edition was well attended by top government functionaries, Indigenes and residents of Anambra, including the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Honourable Uche Okafor, the traditional ruler of Nteje, Igwe Rowland Odegbo and his counterpart from Aguleri, Igwe Mike Idigo, Commissioners and State House of Assembly members, amongst others.


The Izaga masquerade join in the walk, apart from the regular ogene music and fruit breakfast which are now trademark of the walk as participants were well entertained.
