The Anambra State House of Assembly has set up a committee to investigate the causes of the recent fire outbreak in Onitsha with a view to averting future occurrence.


The House set up the committee during yesterday’s plenary in Awka.
House of Assembly Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim was there and reports that the House also commiserated with the victims of the inferno and commended Governor Willie Obiano for his prompt response to assist the victims.


In his remarks, the Speaker, Aanambra State House of Assembly, Hon.
Uche Okafor commiserated with the immediate and extended families of victims of the ugly incident, especially a woman and her child who were burnt, adding that it calls for sober reflection on how to find a lasting solution to fire outbreak in the state.


Explaining his motion of urgent public importance on the Onitsha fire incident, the member representing Onitsha North Two Constituency, Hon.
Edward Ibuzo described the incident as very pathetic and sympathized with the families of those who lost their lives and means of livelihood to the fire outbreak.


In his speech, the member representing Njikoka One Constituency, Dr.Timothy Ifedioramma, called on the Federal Government to come to the aid of Anambra State through the National Emergency Management Agency to cushion the effect of the fire disaster, while his Njikoka Two Constituency Counterpart, Dr. Pete Ibida sympathised with the victims of the gruesome fire incident and applauded the House for setting up a committee to unravel the causes, with a view to averting future occurrence.


In their remark, the Chief Whip, Chief Lawrence Ezeudu,the member representing Orumba North Constituency, Hon. Emeka Aforka, member for Onitsha South Two Constituency, Mrs. Beverly Ikpeazu Nkemdiche and his Onitsha South One counterpart, Hon. Uzoma Eli also expressed deep concern over the sad incident which claimed lives and property.


Others who commiserated with the victims were Hon. Chuka Ezenwune representing Idemili South Constituency, the member for Ihiala One Constituency, Hon. Chidi Udemmadu.
