Construction work has recommenced on the Nchekwuve-Onochie -Ezu river road in Aguleri. Anambra East council area.


The Commissioner for Works Engineer Marcel Ifejiofor visited the road to inspect quality and pace of work so far.


Works correspondent Ngozi Obileri covered the visit and reports that the Nchekwuve-Onochie-Ezu river road was awarded in 2014 and has been asphalted to an extent, when at some point, a deep gully confronted the contractor which resulted to redesigning of the road . Speaking shortly after inspecting work on the site, the Commissioner for Works Engineer Marcel Ifejiofor said that work has recommenced now that the redesigning has been completed.


He advised the contractor to ensure proper channeling of flood into the Ezu River so that the road will not be threatened by erosion again.
Also speaking, Chief Omenife Izuegbu who is a the chairman and Managing Director of Dolis Brown construction company, the firm handling the project said that erosion menace at the middle of the road posed a serious challenge to the progress of the work and commended Governor Obiano for listening to their call for redesigning of the road, which he said will give lasting solution to the erosion problem.


A resident of the area Mrs. Ugoezue Abazu , expressed gratitude to state government for protecting their residential building and many farm lands from caving into the gully.


Meanwhile, almost all the parts affected by erosion on the road have been sand filled.
