Early this month, Governor Willie Obiano further tightened the security architecture of Anambra state by deciding to fight crime with the latest technology anywhere in the world. Obiano inaugurated, for the first time in Africa, the Super Smart Closed-Circuit Cameras (CCTV) with ultramodern Hi-Tec surveillance equipment.

Though the advanced surveillance cameras are not yet in some American cities and even states, Governor Obiano felt that they should be installed in Anambra State so that it will remain Nigeria’s safest state and, as a result, attract considerable investments. Already, The CCTVs are being installed in Awka, Nnewi and Onitsha, and later, in other parts of the state.

With this, Governor Obiano has opened a window of modern technology in security architecture for Ndi Anambra and business empires in the state. The need therefore for residential and business CCTV systems in the state is higher than ever before. Operators of Filling stations, banks, factories, super markets, hotels, restaurants, entertainment centres, night clubs, schools, private and public buildings and indeed homes and markets should complement the Obiano’s High-Tec security initiative.

These midgets are easily affordable and available for our homes and business premises. Protecting our home or business is not as complicated or expensive as we may think. Modern security systems are not just for massive corporations. The small and medium enterprises can equally afford them.

Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV), also known as Video Surveillance, is simply the use of video cameras to monitor the interior and exterior of a property, transmitting the signal to a monitor. The cameras discourage any attempt to breach security. The thought that one is being recorded by the camera makes many thieves shun the idea of striking. CCTV also helps in easier tracking of suspects. Modern CCTV cameras equally have video analytics features such as facial recognition and object classification, as well as various storage and monitoring-related features. CCTV cameras are generally small and unobtrusive. They can be placed anywhere on the exterior or interior of a building. If you do not want the cameras to be obvious, you can get small cameras that are easy to hide in plants or behind speakers.

Potential criminals who see the camera may be dissuaded from following through with their planned criminal activities for fear of being caught on tape. It increases safety for you, your employees and your customers. If a crime occurs, the CCTV camera can provide evidence needed to catch and convict the criminal.

Another advantage is that you can monitor your business from anywhere. Technology allows you to watch the camera feed on your Smartphone or via the internet. That means you can check in on your business during off-hours, on weekends, when you are on vacation or when you travel. CCTV can also act as a huge deterrent to criminals, especially when it comes to pre-planned crimes.

Again, when evaluating the insurance policy, the security of your property plays a huge impact on the amount of money you will pay. So by taking steps to make your property more secure and reduce the likelihood of your property being damaged or vandalised, you are in turn reducing the likelihood of you making a claim, allowing your insurance provider to reduce your policy costs.

CCTV can be set up at various blind spots around your home or business that you cannot see from your windows so that if you hear an unusual noise or would like some extra peace of mind, you can check the perimeter of your property without having to leave your home. Another good use of CCTV is to use it as a peephole; if you receive a visitor late at night and are unsure who it could be, you can identify the visitor without having to answer the door.

CCTV is not just a preventative system; it can also help bring criminals to justice. If the worst was to happen and your property was robbed, damaged or vandalised, or if another criminal event took place in the vicinity of your cameras, then your CCTV footage can be given to the police to help find and identify the culprits.

CCTV cameras are excellent deterrent for criminals. An intruder, seeing cameras may decide that it is easier and safer to move elsewhere. It is better to prevent intrusion than dealing with it after it has occurred.

Above all, a CCTV system is a cost-effective form of security. The technology is easy to understand, simple to use, and cost effective to maintain. Do not wait until the worst happens. Thinking ahead now; it will save you a lot of money and stress in the long run. Support Obiano’s security architecture by installing CCTV cameras in your homes and business premises today.
