The Catholic Women Organization of Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church Awka has launched a cultural dance group.


The Women who entertained their guest with different dance steps appeared in yellow and white attire as Kpakpando Ututu Cultural groups charged the atmosphere of the church with their presence.


While addressing the women and their guests, the member representing Anambra East and West Federal Constituency, Chief Chinedu Obidigwe who chaired the occasion said that the event is a welcome development as it promotes the cultural heritage of Ndi Igbo . Chief Obidigwe who adjudged the Igbo culture as one of the best in the country stated that culture is life as the younger generation will emulate what their mother’s are doing and follow suit.


The Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue said the women have gone a long way to promote their culture which shows that the church also assists in reviving some of their cultures which hitherto were forgotten.


One of the Patrons of the Kpakpando Ututu Women Dance Group, Sir Chuka Nnabife who is the Managing Director of Anambra State printing Corporation, Publishers of National Light Newspapers said culture is one aspect of life that lifts spirit of the people stating that all must try as much as possible to pass on the baton to the younger generation.


Earlier in a homily during the mass to mark the official launch of the dance group, the Parish Vicar Two Reverend Father Blaise Ejike said the church through the women wants to tell the society that it’s good for all to join hands in promoting Igbo culture noting that it is not fetish when such a dance is brought to the knowledge of all because it helps them to remember their roots and hold it to a high esteem.


In an address of welcome, the President of Catholic Women Organization, Saint Thomas Aquinas Parish, Lady Obianuju Chiekezie said that their passion to have the dance group was to strengthen the unity of CWO, to showcase the skills of their brilliant and talented women, improve the health and physical fitness of CWO members.
