Tomorrow, November 2, 2019, the Anglican Communion in Anambra State will converge on the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka for the sixth edition of the Anambra Anglican Prayer Rally.
Those expected include members of the Anglican Communion from Diocese on the Niger, Awka Diocese, Nnewi Diocese, Aguata Diocese and Amichi Diocese. Others are Ogbaru Diocese, Diocese of Niger West, Mbamili Diocese and Ihiala Diocese. The Chief Host of the Prayer Rally is His Grace, Most Rev Dr Alexander Ibezim – the Archbishop of Niger Province and Bishop of Awka Diocese. The Preacher for this year’s Prayer Rally is Rt Rev Prosper Amah, the Lord Bishop of Ogbaru Diocese, while the Special Guest of Honour is His Excellency, Chief Dr Willie Obiano (Akpokuedike Global), Governor of Anambra State.
No doubt, Christian work is a work of prayer. Our Master and savior, Jesus Christ, is the one who showed the way, rising up into a secluded place to seek the face of the Father. He prays without ceasing and admonishes His followers to do same. A prayerless Christian is a powerless Christian, hence the need to tap into divinity through prayer for answers to the problem of humanity.
Today, our dear country Nigeria is besieged by myriads of problems, most of which have proven to be beyond our human calculation. Back home, Anambra State is not left out of the challenges of the time. Hunger is pervasive, immorality has become the order of the day; even some leaders are confused and confounded.
The led are in disarray, the centre doesn’t seem to hold. At a time like this, the need for prayer cannot be over-emphasized. Prayer is the key that can lock out the powers of darkness, environmental principalities and powers by opening the flood gate of heaven to intervene in the affairs of men.
It is against this background that all Anglicans must make it a point of duty to be at this year’s Anglican Prayer Rally for the Word says, “if two or three of us can agree as to touching one thing, it shall be done for us by our Father in heaven”. We need to come in humility, unity and oneness of purpose. We need to cry out with one voice to our heavenly Father and according to His promise; He shall hear from heaven and heal our land.
Therefore, we must sanctify our vessels in honour and come with a broken heart. We must pray with faith and believe the Lord will answer us. No matter how difficult a situation is, when you take it to God in prayer, the solution comes. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life; He is the Son of God, our Messiah and He said, “seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be open unto you”.
Let us all gather at the Dr Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka tomorrow, Saturday, November 2, 2019 by 10:00am for the Anambra Anglican Prayer Rally 2019. The theme for this year is taken from Psalms 92 vs 2, which says: ‘the Righteous shall flourish like a palm tree planted by the river side’.
It is apt, no matter the challenges confronting us as a people, when we pray, we know He answers us. The lines may be tough, recession may be strolling by, but all we need to do is hold unto God in prayer, for, with God, all things are possible. Even before we gather, God has already answered. Make sure you are part of this epoch event, we shall all be refreshed.
