South Sudan has declared a state of emergency after flooding killed nine people and displaced twenty- five thousand others.
The country’s President Mr. Salva Kiir, made this known in a statement.
The emergency was declared in twenty-seven out of the East African nation’s thirty- two states after torrential rains had submerged many villages.
The President said the state of emergency is declared to allow aid workers and other humanitarian agencies to access people affected by the floods who are in need of aid.
According to President Kiir, at least nine people have died due to the floods earlier this week in the Upper Nile region.
In another development, the Islamic State jihadist group has confirmed the death of its leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and named his replacement as Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Quraishi.
