The Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Security, Police Affairs and Boundary Matters, has pledged to partner the Anambra State Police Command in protection of lives and property in the state.


The committee gave the assurance when it paid a familiarization visit to the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command in his office at Amawbia.


Speaking during the visit, the Chairman of the Committee, Honourable Onyebuchi Offor, explained that it was designed to appreciate the police for being alive to their responsibilities in Anambra and to urge them to intensify efforts in the fight against crime in order to nipe criminality in the bud.


He noted that the symbiotic relationship that exists between the Anambra State House of Assembly and the police, has enabled security agencies in the state to discharge their duties creditably as Anambra is now one of the safest states in Nigeria.


On his part, a member of the Committee, Dr. Timothy Ifedioramma who noted that Yuletide period is always characterized with crime, called on the police to be on top of the situation and increase their surveillance at banks to prevent bank robbery.


Other members of the Committee, Chief John Nwokoye and Dr. Carter Umeh, stressed the need for the command to always deploy their men to strategic areas in the state especially, Bridge Head Onitsha to ensure free vehicular movement throughout the Yuletide.


Responding, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, Mr.
John Abang represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chris Awolabi who commended the state government for supporting them with crime fighting equipment, assured that they will address all the issues raised by the Committee in the interest of the state.
