Anambra state government has repeated its call on the Federal government to declare November sixteenth a national holiday in honour of Late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe.


The Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C-Don Adinuba, made the call while hosting members of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers, Anambra state chapter, who called on him at his Udoji state secretariat office in Awka, seeking the immortalization of Late Chinua Achebe the literary icon.


While addressing his visitors, Mr. Adinuba, who described the late Achebe as one of the greatest brands in the state, country and Africa, noted that his birthday coincided with that of Late Azikiwe.


He revealed that the state government is planning great immortalization for whom he referred to as most cited author.


Commissioner Adinuba while appointing the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Strategic Communications, Mr. Maxim Uzor, as state government’s link person, assured them of government’s unalloyed support as they host the 2019 Chinua Achebe literary festival.


The Coordinator, Society of Young Nigerian Writers, Anambra state Chapter, Mr. Izunna Okafor, called for the establishment of writers residence in memory of Late Achebe, who remains their role model.


Mr. Okafor, who said they came to intimate the state government and the general public of this year’s edition of the Chinua Achebe Literary Festival, appealed to the state government to be the first to immortalize him.


In a vote of thanks, the Secretary General, Young Nigerian Writers, Anambra state Chapter, Miss Maureen Kenneth, thanked the Commissioner for appointing a government liaison which she described, as a dream come true.
