The Council members and Management of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, COOU, organized the Second Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Annual Memorial Lecture which held on 4th of November, at the Igbariam campus of the University.
The aim of the lecture was to showcase issues of national importance and also to immortalize Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu whose name the university bears.
According to the release signed by the Institution’s Public relations officer, Dr Christian Chukwueloka the memorial lecture has never been a forum for politics or vendetta of any sort.
The release said the University feels most embarrassed when one of the invitees used the forum to embarrass Governor Willie Obiano who approved the Memorial Lecture and was effectively represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke.
The University hereby disassociates itself from all acts and the obnoxious language used against the Governor and Visitor to the University.
The University also reiterates that the Memorial Lecture is not a political event and must not be seen or taken as such adding that to turn the Memorial Lecture venue to an avenue to insult Governor Obiano is most unfortunate and unacceptable to them.
The institution noted that the sponsor of the Memorial Lecture, Honourable Chinedu Obidigwe is a brother and personal friend of the Governor and the Governor most graciously insisted that the Memorial Lecture must hold annually on the birthday of Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.
It said that they most sincerely appreciate the assistance and support of their Visitor and Governor of Anambra state and do also reiterate that the statement made against him by their invitee, Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu, was most unfortunate and does not represent the University’s position in any form.
