The Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts has charged the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service to improve in revenue generation to guarantee rapid development of the state.
The committee made the call when the key functionaries of the Agency appeared before it for the verification of their audited 2018 financial transactions.The Committee which spoke through its Chairman, Sir Somtochukwu Udeze, after looking into their 2018 financial transactions, expressed satisfaction with their performance in the year under review and asked them to tighten areas through which government revenue is diverted to private pockets so that the State Government will have sufficient funds to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people.Â
In their remarks, the Deputy Chairman of the Committee, Dr Timothy Ifedioramma and a member of the Committee, Honourable Charles Obimma, commended that the exercise was designed to encourage accountability and transparency in the disbursement of public funds.
In a vote of thanks, the Head of Assessment and Collection Department, Anambra State Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Albert Ofomata, commended the Committee for being alive to their constitutional responsibilities, assuring that they will carry out their directive.The Committee also verified the 2018 audited financial activities of the Ministry of Public Utilities when it appeared before it.
