An orientation course for JSS1,SS1, and transferred students of Public Secondary Schools across Anambra State has ended.
This year’s programme which took place at Queen of the Rosary College Onitsha, had its theme as, “Education for Successful Studentship“, the programme sponsored by the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board and Anambra State Post Primary Schools Service Commission, was attended by the Commissioner for Basic Education, Professor Kate Omenugha, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Basic Education Mr Nwabueze Nwankwo, Chairman Post Primary School Service Commission Lady Ify Okaro, Chairman Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board Chief Patrick Ugboaja, Directors of Education, Principals, Education Secretaries, Board Members and students.
Speaking during the event the Commissioner for Basic Education Professor Omenugha, charged the students to always take their studies seriously.
She commended the organizers of the programme especially their choice of topics and resource persons, which she said will impact positively on the students.
In a keynote address, the Chairman Post Primary Schools Service Commission, Lady Ify Okaro, said the orientation programme was designed to enable fresh and transferred students in secondary schools get acquainted and adjust to the challenges of school life which will change their way of thinking towards education.
The Principal of Queen of the Rosary College Onitsha, Reverend Sister Maria Chijioke, in her welcome address expressed gratitude to the organisers choosing the school for the hosting of this year’s orientation programme, and promised to leave no stone unturned in introducing the new students to the modern education system for proper foundation.
In a lead paper presentation on the theme “Education for Successful Studentship,” Dr. Ndidi Okeke, said all the students need is practical and holistic education.
Other speakers at the event included Dr. Njide Nwoye, Principal Our Lady’s High school Onitsha, Mrs Chika Offorjindu, Guidance Counselor Onitsha High shool and Dr Ifeoma Okafor, Principal Ideke Girl’s Secondary School.
Academic procession, cultural dance and drama presentation added glamour to the occasion.
