Investors have been urged to explore increasing opportunities in rice farming in the state.
Speaking to journalists at Nnobi, a former President General of the town, Dr Mike Omenugha, said the huge investment made by Governor Willie Obiano’s administration has repositioned and expanded the rice farming value chain while accelerating the states drive to achieve food sufficiency and export capacity.
Dr Omenugha noted that with increased tones of annual harvest, Anambra has become one of the leading rice producing states in Nigeria and West Africa Sub-region which he noted, was why residents of the state have not suffered the effect of the boarder closure and restriction on importation of rice by the federal government.
He pointed out that Governor Obiano’s massive support to rice farmers has remarkably improved the quality and standard of rice produced in the state as a better alternative to foreign rice.
Dr Omenugha expressed satisfaction that more youths are daily getting involved in rice farming which he said, would provide permanent solution to the challenges of unemployment.
He urged privileged individuals and communities to also see rice farming as a viable youth empowerment venture which would not only make them self-reliant but also equip them to become employers of labour.
Also speaking, a community leader, Chief Collins Mmaduka urged communities to get involved in collective rice farming on community land as part of common wealth of their people to improve their income.
