The International Community is observing today as a day for the remembrance of road traffic victims.


The day which started in 1993 by Road Peace and since them it is being observed and promoted by several non-governmental organizations including the European federation of road traffic victims and its associate organizations.


On twenty-sixth October 2005 the United Nations endorsed the day as an International event to be observed on every third Sunday in November making it a major advocacy for road traffic injury prevention and the World Health Organization and United Nation’s Road Safety collaboration encouraged governments and non-governmental organizations across the globe to commemorate the day annually.


Speaking on the significance of the event the Anambra State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps,(FRSC) mr Andrew Kumapayi, noted that the celebration is coming at the time the sector command i developing a road map to curb the threat of articulated vehicles in Anambra state even as he reminded all of the task ahead in ensuring hitch free ember months activities.


Contributing the National Coordinator of Special Marshals of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr Sini Kwabe while using the opportunity to observe a few minute silence for the departed victims of road traffic officers, said that the public should be aware of the challenges of road crashes and the burden which victims and their families experience.


The Anambra State Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Christian Madubuko in his reaction enjoined residents of the State to pray for all those who lost their lives in the cause of duty on the road and celebrate their contributions.


The Transport Commissioner described road traffic victims as the real heroes of the nation.
