The Anambra state Commissioner for transport, Dr Christian Madubuko, has charged the new leadership of the Anambra state Urban Drivers Welfare Association to work as a team and shun illegal activities that would portray the state in a bad light.


Dr Madubuko who gave the charge yesterday during the union’s election, said the task of developing Anambra state is a joint effort of all lovers of the state as any other negative tendencies against the state government would not promote peace, unity and love among the people.


He advised them to always use dialogue as the only genuine means of settling their differences rather than taking to violence protest and other clandestine measures.


The Transport Commissioner reminded them of the need to always partner with the Willie Obiano Administration effort to create an enabling environment for every person residing in the state to thrive.
He said government on its part would always encourage and give all necessary support to the association to ensure that they continue to operate in a peaceful and conducive environment.


He announced that government has also decided to hand over the generation of internally generated revenue to all well organized transportation unions under the supervision of the state government.


In his speech the outgoing Chairman of the Association, Brother Nnamdi Okafor, traced the challenges encountered during the formation.


He said the election is a delegate election involving only three members of each unit executive.


Those who were elected to pilot the affairs of the union for the next four years are, Chief Moses Ohanebo chairman, the post of the first and second vice Chairman was worn by Chief Ikechukwu Ene and Elder John Ogbonna respectively.


While Ifeanyi Ogbonna, Friday Okereke and Chief Felix Idenyi, won the post of Secretary, Assistance Secretary and Treasurer.


The post of provost went to Mr. Ibenwa Chukwuma.
In his post election speech, the Chairman elect, Chief Ohanebo, thanked the Anambra state Commissioner Dr Madubuko for his commitment to ensure that the Union continues to operate on a peaceful environment.


He promised to lead by example by ensuring that everybody is carried along.
