In line with Anambra State Government’s interventionary measures in flood-affected communities with health challenges, the state Flood Medical Team has commenced administration of free medical treatment to victims.


Addressing newsmen during flag-off of the event at Primary Healthcare Centre and Maternity, Umueze-Anam, Anambra West Local Government Area, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala, said that Anambra Government would always assist flood-affectedcommunities.


He noted that families had been displaced from their homes and it had resulted to several health issues making government to intervene.


He also said that the exercise is a continuous one until the flood recedes saying that Doctors with officers-in-charge of healthcare centres will continue to monitor situations.’’ Dr Okpala explained that in spite of the fact that some of the installed materials had been submerged at Comprehensive Primary Healthcare Centre, Umueze-Anam, two alternative facilities were located in the up land areas.


He assured that once floodwaters receded, the Comprehensive Primary Healthcare Centre would receive urgent uplift.


State Hospital Administrator, Dr Richmond Achugbu, said that no fewer than two hundred patients had received medical treatment and drugs at the Healthcare and Maternity centre.
He noted that the statistics from the two facilities show that there are no emergencies, outbreak of diseases and no death reports which can be linked to the floods.


Officer in charge of Comprehensive Primary Healthcare, Mrs. Elizabeth Okolo commended state government for always coming to the rescue of flood-affected communities with medical interventions and appealed to it to support health workers in flood-prone areas with some incentives.
