Anambra State Commissioner for Transport, Dr Christian Madubuko, says the state government will sustain various interventionary measures aimed at ensuring safety of life and property on roads.
Dr Madubuko enjoined motorists and other road users to complement government efforts by adhering strictly to road signs and traffic regulations to reduce carnage on the roads.
He was speaking during a workshop at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka.
The commissioner told the participants at the workshop, that under his watch, motorists, especially commercial vehicle drivers, must be sensitized on the dangers of reckless driving that could lead to road mishaps.
He re-assured them of government’s continued support services, while urging them to reciprocate the gesture by being law-abiding and supportive of its policies.
Special Assistant, to the Governor on Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) Matters, Mr. Ralph Okoye, described the theme of the workshop: `Safety on Wheels’, as timely.
Mr. Okoye, said the event was critical to the transport sector, especially now that the festive season was fast approaching; to enlighten drivers to always do the needful.
The State Chief VIO, Mr. Chris Okeke, urged motorists’ especially commercial drivers who have the habit of evading his officers on the roads, to desist from such acts.
He added that VIOs should be seen as working to ensure safety on roads and not to intimidate drivers, pointing out that motorists should always update their vehicle documents.
