The state House of Assembly has called on Governor Willie Obiano to direct the Commissioner for Health to intensify public enlightenment campaign measures to prevent the spread of yellow fever in the state.


The call was sequel to a resolution of the House from a motion sponsored by the Minority Leader and member representing Ekwusigo Constituency, Chief Onyebuchi Offor.


Chief Offor maintained that more than fifty five suspected cases of yellow fever have been reported across eight local government areas of Ebonyi state.


He stressed the need for a public enlightenment campaign to all the nooks and crannies of the state to educate Ndi Anambra on the preventive measures.


In their various contributions, the Majority Leader, Dr. Nnamdi Okafor, member representing Njikoka One Constituency, Dr. Tim Ifedioramma, member for Aguata One Constituency, Dr. Cater Dike-Ume as well as the member representing Anambra East Constituency, Chief Obinna Emeneka, described yellow fever as a silent killer and advised Ndi Anambra to maintain personal hygiene and other preventive approaches to prevent the spread of yellow fever in the state.


The speaker, Honourable Uche Okafor, commended the sponsor of the motion for alerting the state government on the spread of yellow fever in some neigbouring states and urged the Ministry of Health to do the needful to ensure that the communicable disease does not spread to the state.
