Anambra state government in collaboration with the UNDP has presented three different integrity plans for three MDGs related sectors of Education, Health and Water sectors.


The event which took place in Awka, attracted stakeholders from the three sectors, including representatives from Civil Society Organisations and RoLAC.


The three integrity plans, one for each sector is a strategic document that describes policies and measures that should be taken in order to ensure adequate integrity shield in key functions exercised by the three Ministries, their Department and Agencies.


Declaring the presentation open, the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Mark Okoye, called for transparency in all government and individual dealings and transactions.


Mr. Okoye represented by the Permanent Secretary, Comrade Leo Imoka, said the aim of the plans are not to address individual cases of corruption, but to establish mechanisms to prevent and eliminate conditions for the emergence of corruption, unethical and unprofessional practices in all areas of functioning of the institution of the three sectors.


He however said that since the Sustainable Development Goals, SDG, one to ten address issues concerning women, children and the vulnerable, they should be taken seriously.


The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Donor Agencies and the state focal person for UNDP, Lady Nneka Onwudiwe, who stated that the journey to integrity plan started since 2014, disclosed that Governor Willie Obiano recently mandated all comm7issioners to nominate officers from their MDAs to form part of the Anti-corruption committee in the state.


Presenting the integrity plans, a consultant, Mrs Chinwe Nweke, who described corruption as deadly said change is difficult but not impossible.


Mrs Nweke emphasised that the Plan will no doubt assist the state government to introduce measures like anti-corruption policies and trainings as appropriate to its political, social and economic environments.


Also speaking, the State Project Officer of RoLAC, Mr. Ifiora Chukwudozie appealed to the state government to take the Plan seriously, internalize it and initiate platforms for its sustainability.
